In an exciting, challenging initiative, just months into her leadership, the General is inviting each territory and command to consider committing a specific half hour between 5 am and 8 am every Thursday morning to prayer. Echoing the sentiment that ‘the voice of prayer is never silent, nor dies the strain of praise away’ (SASB 677), the Army’s international leader is hoping that prayer meetings will encircle the globe so that wherever our yellow, red and blue flag flies – and beyond – so too the prayers of Salvationists are lifted to the throne of grace.

THE CHALLENGE
The intention is that Army people of all nationalities and locations join forces in prayer internationally at least once a week. Psalm 133 speaks clearly and explicitly of the blessings of unity and we are challenged to step out together in faith, taking the Lord at his word and praying his blessing upon the Army in this special way.

God has specifically promised blessing when his people join forces and there is no reason to expect anything less than rich times of spiritual benefit. The work of The Salvation Army throughout the world will be enhanced in all kinds of ways by the faithful intercession of God’s people.

These times of prayer will include anyone who is able to support them and wishes to do so.

THE COMMITMENT
Territorial Commander Commissioner John Matear is keen that Territorial Headquarters should lead by example and to that end has arranged for the meeting room at THQ to be available for prayer between 7.30 am and 8.30 am every Thursday, commencing 1 September. This is one example of the type of arrangement that can be made in response to the General’s request. Space can be set aside in Army headquarters, halls and centres. Salvationists can open up their homes to create opportunities for praying with those who live nearby. Creative ideas are encouraged.

Individuals who are unable to be part of a wider praying group are invited to set aside a time to pray so that individual personal prayer is added to corporate prayer. No one need ever feel unable to participate simply because of geographical logistics, a lack of transport or other practical issues. Everyone who prays forms part of a wider praying group. The chain of prayer is not limited by matters of geography or circumstance.

Prayer requests can be submitted to Major Jill Miller (24-7/SA Prayer Co-ordinator, THQ) and details of people and situations in need of prayer can be shared. Major Miller is also happy to advise on prayer subjects relating to specific areas of Army life and can supply prayer leaflets outlining concerns and needs, enabling and facilitating intelligent, informed prayer. (She can be contacted by email at gillian.miller@salvationarmy.org.uk)

The international prayer meeting begins soon! This represents a fantastic opportunity for us all to share in the privilege of belonging to an Army that is moving forward on its knees.

TO CONSIDER
A further article outlining the background to this concept will appear in Salvationist’s 17 September issue. Look out for it and, meanwhile, be asking the Lord what response you and your fellowship can make to the General’s request. For the sake of the Army, for the sake of the Kingdom, the investment of 30 minutes a week is worth careful consideration.

We could do worse than to adopt song number 622 in our songbook as a ‘prayer anthem’ – ‘Bless our Army! Bless our Army! With thy power baptise us all.

Pill Corps Values

<img style="cursor: pointer; However I hope it will be effective in keeping our readers up to speed with what is going on in the Corps. Although I've played around in 'Blog Space' before, I've still got a fair bit to learn. What I'm hoping is that this site will just keep you informed of what is happening and what is going to happen. I hope to make links for more specific activities later. For example a link that can be used for leaders to communicate with members of TGI, Quest, Cell Groups etc. These will not be open blogs but by invitation with a password. ........
Don't rush me. I also still want to move on with the Web Site and will be talking to some folk about that.
The advantage of this is that I can link you in to othe sites that would be useful and helpful for example Major Carol has a site as do other folk in this Corps and other Corps ..................................
