This is the Word of the Lord

I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” Haggai 2:7-9

Time for God

Welcome to worship on our Prayer weekend. As we think about Discipleship in the coming weeks, today we reflect on the importance of putting God first and making time for prayer and connecting with God.

  What is The Salvation Army?

‘Fresh Expression’ – The Next Step
The Christian community of Pill is exploring setting up a fresh expression of church in the village. Having already met to learn about Fresh Expressions, another meeting is being held on Sunday 21st January at 6pm in the Methodist Church to think about what should happen next. You’re invited and welcome to join us.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
From 18th – 25th January churches in the UK will be marking a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year the resources have been produced in the Carribean, reflecting some of the modern day issues addressed by the churches in that region, such as abuse of human rights, trafficking and addictions. Daily resources for prayer will be available in our prayer space, or can be downloaded by visiting www.ctbi.org.uk

On Sunday 28th January at 6pm we’re having a film night to watch ‘The Shack’ (12 rating), following on from the Book Club’s reading of the novel last year. It’s a fascinating, moving and challenging story about a man’s encounter with God following a family tragedy. All are welcome to come and enjoy the film (whether or not you’ve read the book!).

Please pray for…

‘I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.’ 1 Timothy 2:1

·     A number of members of our church and community who continue to feel unwell, or are undergoing treatment and tests.
·     Liz March and Rev. Jill Flowers (Methodist Church) who have both been bereaved.
·     Pete & Pauline’s daughter-in-law, Donna, who was recently bereaved of her father.
·     The family and friends of Barbara Young (Christchurch & CAMEO member) as they prepare for Barbara’s funeral this Wedesday.

Spurgeon's Daily Readings

19th October
"Babes in Christ."—1 Corinthians 3:1.

RE you mourning, believer, because you are so weak in the divine life: because your faith is so little, your love so feeble? Cheer up, for you have cause for gratitude. Remember that in some things you are equal to the greatest and most full-grown Christian. You are as much bought with blood as he is. You are as much an adopted child of God as any other believer. An infant is as truly a child of its parents as is the full-grown man. You are as completely justified, for your justification is not a thing of degrees: your little faith has made you clean every whit. You have as much right to the precious things of the covenant as the most advanced believers, for your right to covenant mercies lies not in your growth, but in the covenant itself; and your faith in Jesus is not the measure, but the token of your inheritance in Him. You are as rich as the richest, if not in enjoyment, yet in real possession. The smallest star that gleams is set in heaven; the faintest ray of light has affinity with the great orb of day. In the family register of glory the small and the great are written with the same pen. You are as dear to your Father's heart as the greatest in the family. Jesus is very tender over you. You are like the smoking flax; a rougher spirit would say, "put out that smoking flax, it fills the room with an offensive odour!" but the smoking flax He will not quench. You are like a bruised reed; and any less tender hand than that of the Chief Musician would tread upon you or throw you away, but He will never break the bruised reed. Instead of being downcast by reason of what you are, you should triumph in Christ. Am I but little in Israel? Yet in Christ I am made to sit in heavenly places. Am I poor in faith? Still in Jesus I am heir of all things. Though "less than nothing I can boast, and vanity confess." yet, if the root of the matter be in me I will rejoice in the Lord, and glory in the God of my salvation
